Could you be more Spezific?

Starting my usual morning routine usually consists of a GIANT cup of coffee. As I began getting my coffee buzz, I stumbled on an article discussing a new search engine. In my previous post, I asked the question of what will they think of next? Unbeknownst to me at the time I was writing that post, another new search engine was preparing to launch June 15th.
It is called Spezify.com and is a VISUAL based search engine. The interesting thing about this search engine is that it pulls data from MSN, Yahoo!, eBay, Amazon.com and Twitter. This engine gives search results in three ways: text, video and images, all with the option of turning off bits and pieces. Whether you want to see text only, images only, or if you only want to pull data from Twitter, Spezify.com will allow you pick and choose how you want to see interesting tidbits.
When I first looked into the search engine, my first thought is that people would have to fight through the clutter. It was also a bit overwhelming and easy to lose something, especially if something caught my attention but wanted to come back to it. After a few searches and clicking around within the search engine, it was starting to become fun to look for things. Where did the information come from? Someone’s blog? Amazon.com? YouTube? Were they Tweets? As you click on what strikes your fancy, Spezify brings the data front and center, telling you where the information came from with the ability to click the URL, like Amazon.com.
While it was starting to be fun moving around the site and seeing what my search query of “coffee” would provide me, I noticed that there were irrelevant results to what I was originally intending to find. I know, searching for “coffee” is vague, but I wasn’t totally awake yet. It didn’t dawn on me that I’d be pulling up queries that were “coffee” colored items. I wasn’t expecting to see a pair of Crocs or a “coffee” colored duvet cover when I was looking for search results on my favorite morning beverage.
That said, you can “spezify” your search by clicking on one of the related words to make your search a bit more relevant, or simply clicking the + next to a keyword you want to be part of your original search query.
Check out what the buzz is about! Do you think Visual Search Engines are the new way to search? Or do you think it isn’t spezific enough?

Spezify sounds like a meta version of SearchMe. Interesting. I do think we’ll see other engines lean more and more towards this visual search layout as time goes one. Eventually, our little blue links may be a thing of the past!
